Porsche's new '911': the Cayenne fire engine

Wed, 10 Sep 2008

By Nick Eaton First Official Pictures 10 September 2008 10:13 Another day, another Porsche variant. Stuttgart's fire department has taken delivery of two red-hot Cayennes with a difference: they're emergency vehicles which have been specially tweaked by Porsche's Training Centre for the city's firemen. The Stuttgart fire service claims that the hilly topography of the city meant it needed all-terrain emergency vehicles, and the project was given to local firm Porsche because the Cayenne served up the firemen's needs for something that can go anywhere fast. "There are no plans for Hyundai to make a separate brand," Vice Chairman Shin Jong-Woon said in an interview Friday at the carmaker's headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

One student designer has made history by winning the prizes for Best Overall Design and Best Use of Glazing at the 2011 Pilkington Vehicle Design Awards. For the first time in the awards' 24-year history, the prizes were awarded to Adam Phillips, a postgraduate of the vehicle design course at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Phillips, who previously worked as a toy designer for Lego before studying at the RCA, scooped the awards with a concept on the modern family car that uses iPad-style technology called ‘Family Dynamic'.
